Anthony Echelle has contributed importantly to knowledge of the genetic structure and evolutionary relationships of fishes. He is an authority on the application of genetics theory to the management of endangered species, and, with his wife, Alice, has been honored by various organizations for his contributions to conservation of fishes in the southwest.
